So we all have that special place we love to go to cause it has us beaming from ear to ear like a kid in a candy store & just makes us feel alive! And for me, one of those special places is New Orleans, Louisiana. And, if you didn't already hear me say it before...New Orleans is known for its delicious food, amongst other things like soulful music & vibrant culture. BUT did you know that New Orleans is also known for it's cocktails?! I got a chance to try a very popular signature drink, which is called the Hurricane cocktail, and man oh man (!!!) The drink IS BANGIN'!...So much so, that I had to give it it's own blog post in my mini-blog-series....Watch me make it here!

The story of the hurricane dates back to World War II where there was a scarcity of domestic liquor, but a surplus of rum. The scarcity of domestic liquor was used as leverage in negotiations & transactions & it would often force bar owners to purchase excessive amounts of rum in order to acquire other spirits. Now, you've probably heard of the famous bar Pat O'briens in New Orleans, and so homeboy was not about to waste his coins and was pretty much hellbent on putting the large quantities of rum to good use. He had 1 of his bartenders create a concoction with rum being 1 of the main ingredients, and the Hurricane cocktail was born! Now 1 would probably guess that the drink's name derived from New Orleans climate being prone to hurricanes, but actually the real reason is because it was often served in a tall tulip-shaped-glass, which resembles that of a hurricane lamp. So there's your fun trivia for the day!
