Anyhoo...I got to thinking that it's time to bring in some positive, spring vibes, by giving some of my best helpful pre-wedding tips for couples to get excited on planning their wedding, while at the same time taking advantage of the warm weather! Therefore, take a look at my top 5 reasons for couples to book professional engagement photos.

1.) Save-The-Dates

I think save-the-dates are so underrated! It is my belief that many people think that save-the-dates are just one more extra tedious thing to do, when it comes to their wedding planning, and they just don't want to be bothered. So they end up nixing save-the-dates altogether with a simple text or email blast to all their wedding guests. But just think about it...What they initially thought was just one more extra tedious step, immediately results in even way more steps. Why you ask? Because everyone isn't going to initially reply to that text or email...Or it can easily get lost in the shuffle of text convos and email threads. I know I can't be bothered while I am running around planning weddings. And don't even get me started on the follow-up of alllll those guests! Do yourselves a favor and capture a fun photo session with your beloved and make them into cute save-the-date post-cards, fridge magnets (my personal fave), or a social media post.

2.) Make Your Wedding Planning Fun

Depending on your personality type...You're either really excited about getting started on your wedding planning journey...immediately overwhelmed at the thought of planning your wedding...or you start-off stoked and hit the ground running and then fall flat on your face cause you didn't anticipate the process being a bit stressful, tedious, and longgg. Which brings me to my reason #2...Make your wedding planning fun as much as possible! I think too often, many couples get caught up in taking advice from all the wedding blogs, Pinterest, family, & friends, and burn themselves out in the attempt to do alll the things, while at the same time trying to accommodate their family and friends in the process. Couples instantly forget that it isn't about pleasing their parents, family, friends, & strangers on social media. Hey, I even include myself in this mix...It's about doing what's right for YOU as a couple. Why not get your wedding planning off to a great start by creating a wonderful experience for you and your future spouse...?! Think about it this way...Couples don't often revel in the engagement stage as much as they should. I, personally, like the title of fiancé and you should too! Also, maybe you don't often get a chance to get all gussied up with professional makeup and a stunning ensemble (Personally, I think this should be done more than solely on your wedding day), so why not make it an entire magical experience and capture some beautiful pictures in the process?! It'll be one of the many great moments prior to the wedding that you and your love can look back on and reminisce.

3.) An Heirloom

Which brings me to reason #3...An heirloom. Ok so maybe not exactly an heirloom, but, more specifically, a beautiful keepsake to pass down. Just call me a total sucker for things with sentimental value. I don't know about you, but I enjoy sepia tone & colorful vintage photos. They instantly give me a feeling of nostalgia. And I just absolutely love going through my personal family photo albums and seeing different members of my family at different stages in their lives even more! My family didn't have a lot growing up, but I appreciate the fact that my late maternal grandmother always managed to get pictures taken of her family. She even had herself photoshopped in some family pictures because she came to the United States to work and take care of her family and missed out on some of the family's portrait sessions. Yes, even back then my savvy grandmother was privy to these editing hacks and did what she had to do to create treasured memories. Even in spite of her circumstances, she still saw the importance of creating memories that would eventually become the most valuable keepsakes that we have of her. I think a lot of who I am derives from her kindred spirit and legacy.

4.) Express Your Couple Style & Wedding Theme

Reason #4...Booking professional engagement photos helps to describe your couple personality type and style, while at the same time setting the tone for your wedding theme! Maybe you have a fun wedding theme where you want to play up something that you both really enjoy, like the idea of having a destination wedding or maybe both of you are obsessed with the 70s and want to reenact a scene from Grease...Whatever the case may be, booking an engagement photo session allows you to totally highlight your personalities and style as a couple. Oh and don't worry if you don't have a theme! It can be as simple as taking beautiful pictures of the both of you dressed up if you're a couple whose more fashionable, or more dressed down if you're a couple who is more country chic.

5.) Get To Know Your Photographer

Last, but certainly not least...Getting to know your wedding photographer. Booking an engagement photo session is a great opportunity to vet a photographer that you might have been interested in for your wedding and want to see how working with them is like. If you hit it off well, then you guys will build a nice little rapport and you'll be used to the photographer by the time your wedding rolls around, so no awkward vibes on your wedding day. You'll just feel more at ease and that's always a good thing! Lastly, be sure to keep in mind that lots of photographers offer a free engagement photo session when you book a wedding package with them, so yeah that's a win-win too!
