Welcome to Chantilly's Garden, where vintage charm, blooming florals, and thoughtful details came together to celebrate the woman who inspired it all.

Inspired by her passion for gardening, afternoon tea, comfort foods, vintage treasures, and nature, I transformed her backyard into an enchanting garden brunch. The celebration was filled with fresh blooms, charming desserts, heartfelt details, and meaningful surprises, all designed to create an afternoon that felt just as beautiful as the woman we were celebrating.

From a whimsical teapot cake and apple rose tarts at each place setting to a live painter capturing the afternoon, every element was designed with one person in mind: My Mom.

Nestled in my mom's own backyard, I wanted guests to feel as though they had stumbled upon a quaint cottage garden ready for afternoon tea. Every corner was intentionally designed with textures inspired by nature, from lush moss and topiaries to bird's nests, butterflies, and vintage china. The result was a setting that felt warm, inviting, and effortlessly collected, as though it had always belonged there.

Behind the Design

When I first started envisioning this celebration, I didn't begin with a color palette or centerpiece. I started with my Mom.

Every design & vendor decision came back to the things she loves most. She finds so much joy tending to her garden, cooking delicious meals, collecting vintage treasures, sipping tea, and surrounding herself with nature. I wanted the celebration to feel like an extension of her personality, one that was elegant, welcoming, and effortlessly beautiful.

Rather than creating a traditional party theme, I leaned into the feeling I wanted guests to experience. Soft moss place settings created the foundation for the tablescape, while vintage teacups, flowers, bird's nests, butterflies, and manicured topiaries brought the garden to life.

One of my favorite details came completely by accident. While painting my mom's name in gold on a wooden sign for the dessert table backdrop, the excess paint transferred onto the board beneath it, leaving behind a beautiful stencil impression.

So, instead of discarding it, I incorporated it into the décor, and it ended up becoming one of my favorite design elements from the entire party. Sometimes the most memorable details are the ones you never planned!

🫖 Tea, Topiaries & Details That Made It Bloom

For me, the magic of any celebration is found in the details. It's the collection of thoughtful details that quietly work together to tell a story long before the first guest ever takes a seat.

To bring Chantilly's Garden to life, I began with a foundation of white table linens overlayed with cream-colored lace tablecloths, and strategically placed lush moss pieces atop of it that instantly softened the table and created the feeling of dining in the middle of the garden. From there, I layered vintage inspired china, gold chargers, mercury glass accents, delicate glassware, and fresh florals to create a tablescape that felt elegant without ever feeling overdone.

Nature became one of my favorite design elements. Mini bird's nests filled with robin's egg chocolate truffles, butterflies nestled among the florals, sculpted topiaries, and whimsical woodland touches brought a sense of charm to every place setting while allowing the beauty of the backyard to remain the star of the celebration.

One of my favorite design philosophies is mixing elevated details with pieces that feel collected over time. Rather than making everything perfectly match, I wanted each layer to feel as though it belonged there naturally. The result was a garden table that felt warm, inviting, and full of character.

From the personalized coffee cups and floral wrapped water bottles to the vintage inspired signage and thoughtful garden accents, every detail was chosen with my mom in mind. Together, they transformed an ordinary backyard into a celebration that felt intimate, timeless, and unmistakably hers.

🥂 Brunch & MOM-mosas

No garden party brunch would be complete without a menu that felt just as charming as the setting itself. Inspired by my mom's love of homemade-comfort meals and leisurely mornings spent with family, I wanted the food to feel approachable, abundant, and perfect for a spring celebration.

Another way I stretched the budget without compromising the overall design was by shopping my own home first. Rather than purchasing new display pieces, I repurposed furniture we already owned and gave it new life with a fresh coat of turquoise blue paint to complement the garden palette. The outdoor garden shelving had already been begging for a fresh coat of paint, and this celebration gave me the perfect excuse to finally tackle the project.

A few coats of turquoise blue paint completely transformed the piece and another guest-room side table into a beautiful display for the champagne & water bottles.

Not only did it tie the entire color palette together, but it also served both form and function, by beautifully organizing everything in one place while becoming a decorative focal point.

It quickly became another one of my favorite design elements and gentle reminder that some of the best party décor isn't something you buy. It's something you already OWN, just reimagined and repurposed...and perhaps already sitting in your garage!

🪷 Stephanie's Bonus Designer Pro Tip: Even the water bottles got a little garden party makeover. It was another simple design trick that packed a big visual punch! Rather than designing and printing even more custom labels for every bottle myself (cause I printed quite a few), I wrapped each bottle with floral patterned duct tape. It saved me the extra hassle of printing, cutting, and applying individual labels, and honestly, the duct tape was far more forgiving. If I wrapped a bottle unevenly or needed to start over, I could simply cover it or grab a fresh piece and keep it moving. It was an inexpensive, quick, time saving DIY hack that blended beautifully into the overall garden aesthetic, while STILL feeling personalized. Sometimes the simplest details make the biggest difference!

AHHH...Now let's talk about another one of my faves...FOOD! More specifically, BRUNCH FOOD!

Guests were welcomed with a brunch spread featuring crispy chicken & waffles, savory breakfast favorites-like spinach quiche, fresh fruit, parfaits, pastries, and plenty of sweet treats waiting to be discovered throughout the afternoon.  

And, of course, no Mother's Day inspired brunch would be complete without a fun signature cocktail, and so I couldn't resist serving our MOM-mosas at our curated MOM-mosa station, a playful twist on the classic mimosa that quickly became one of the day's favorite details.

Rather than creating an overly formal dining experience, my goal was to encourage guests to linger. To refill their plates, sip another MOM-mosa, pour a fresh cup of tea, and simply enjoy one another's company. Sometimes the best memories are made around the table long after the meal has ended.

🌹Stephanie's Double Bonus Designer Pro Tip: Dress up the actual juice drinks in the pitcher dispensers by dropping several slices of fruit garnishes inside, like orange slices, blood orange slices, lemon slices, & lime slices (You can utilize fresh or dried fruits...It's your preference). You can also drop flower-shaped ice cubes in drinks for a fun, chic accent!

🦋 Stephanie's Triple Bonus Designer Tip: Design your menu around your guest of honor, not just your theme. My mom loves brunch foods just as much as she loves tea, so combining the two felt authentic to her. The most memorable menus aren't necessarily the fanciest. They're the ones that reflect the person you're celebrating.

🍰 Teapots, Tarts & Sweet Little Things

No garden tea party would be complete without a dessert table that felt just as enchanting as the celebration itself. Inspired by blooming gardens and vintage afternoon teas, every sweet treat was thoughtfully selected to complement the overall aesthetic while adding a touch of whimsical elegance to the day.

The showstopper was undoubtedly the handcrafted teapot cake, beautifully adorned with delicate florals, soft butterflies, and intricate details that perfectly captured the charm of Chantilly's Garden. It quickly became the centerpiece of the dessert display and one of my favorite design elements from the entire celebration.

Each guest place setting featured an individual apple rose tart displayed beneath a miniature glass cake dome, creating a sweet surprise that doubled as part of the tablescape.

The dessert table was filled with even more charming treats, including tea bag shaped cookies, cupcakes, cake pops, and other petite sweets that invited guests to indulge throughout the afternoon. Nestled nearby were tiny bird's nests filled with robin's egg chocolate truffles, adding another playful nod to the garden theme. Every dessert was intentionally chosen not only for its flavor, but for the role it played in telling the story of the par-TEA!

Because I believe the best dessert tables are meant to be admired before they're enjoyed, I approached this one as an extension of the overall design. Every stand, cake pedestal, and decorative accent was strategically placed to create height, texture, and visual interest, allowing the sweets themselves to become part of the décor.

🌷 Stephanie's Bonus Designer Tip: Think beyond the dessert itself. Displaying individual treats on varying heights, under glass domes, or alongside natural elements instantly transforms a dessert table from a serving station into a focal point of the celebration. When the presentation is just as thoughtful as the sweets themselves, your dessert display becomes part of the overall design story.

🎨 Blooming Brushstrokes

One of my favorite ways to make a celebration feel unforgettable is by incorporating an interactive experience that guests don't typically expect. While beautiful décor certainly sets the stage, it's often those unexpected moments that leave the most lasting impression.

For Chantilly's Garden, that special touch came in the form of a live event painter. But yours can be a violinist, harpist, henna artist (remember it's whatever YOU prefer). As guests enjoyed brunch, sipped their MOM-mosas, and lingered around the garden, they were able to watch the celebration slowly come to life on canvas, one brushstroke at a time.

There was something incredibly calming about watching the painting evolve throughout the afternoon. Conversations paused for a moment as guests gathered around the easel, admiring each new layer of color and detail. It became entertainment, a conversation starter, and keepsake all in one.

Long after the last mimosa was poured and the final slice of cake was enjoyed, the painting remained. A beautiful reminder that while photographs capture moments, artwork captures the feeling of a celebration in a way that's entirely its own!

If there's one thing I hope readers take away from Chantilly's Garden, it's that creating a beautiful celebration doesn't have to mean starting from scratch. Some of my favorite design elements came from looking at familiar pieces in a new way and allowing the setting itself to inspire the celebration.

Flower printed wrapped water bottles, speckled robin-egg chocolate truffles, tucked inside miniature bird's nests, individual apple rose tarts beneath glass domes, and even an accidental gold stencil all became memorable details that helped tell the story of the day!

💕 Celebrating the Ones We Love

As much as I love designing beautiful celebrations, the heart behind every gathering will always be the people we're celebrating.

Looking back, Chantilly's Garden wasn't simply about tea, flowers, or thoughtful details. It was about creating an experience that reflected who my Mom, Chantal, is and celebrating everything that makes her so special! Every flower, every vintage piece of china, every bird's nest, every butterfly, and every carefully chosen detail was my way of saying, "This reminds me of you."

At the end of the day, that's what I hope every celebration accomplishes. Not perfection. Not extravagance. Just making the people we love feel deeply seen, appreciated, and celebrated!
