“We were meant to explore this earth like children do, unhindered by fear, propelled by curiosity and a sense of discovery. Allow yourself to see the world through new eyes and know there are amazing adventures here for you.”— Laurel Bleadon Maffei

Camp is Officially in Season...
Some birthday parties are centered around elaborate decorations. Others are remembered for the entertainment. But every so often, a celebration comes along where the greatest highlight isn't something you planned it's simply watching children embrace the magic of childhood.
For this Happy Camper birthday celebration, I wanted to create more than just a beautiful setting. We wanted to create an experience. One that encouraged little adventurers to explore, imagine, laugh, and spend the day making memories in the great outdoors.
So, with the great outdoors being our backdrop and adventure leading the way, every detail was thoughtfully designed to capture the charm of camp life while leaving plenty of room for imagination to run wild and free.
Behind the Design: Bringing Camp to Life

There's something wonderfully nostalgic about camping.
It reminds us to slow down, gather around a fire, breathe in fresh air, and appreciate life's simplest moments. That feeling became the inspiration behind this celebration.

One of my favorite parts about designing children's celebrations is finding ways to immerse guests into a theme without relying too too much on over-the-top decorations. For this Happy Camper party, I wanted every detail to feel as though it naturally belonged in the woods. From rustic textures and warm lighting to vintage-inspired pieces that looked as if they'd been collected over years of family camping trips.
Rather than building a party around flashy entertainment or commercialized décor that would compete with nature, I leaned into a design where the awe-inspiring and timeless spirit of the outdoors, would embrace and complement it. I envisioned a woodland camp where little explorers could spend the afternoon wandering trails, roasting marshmallows, discovering hidden treasures, and letting their imaginations roam freely. The surrounding trees, fallen leaves, and crisp autumn air became just as much a part of the décor as the lanterns and tablescapes themselves.

Every detail was designed to feel warm, rustic, and effortlessly inviting.
Natural wood picnic tables became gathering places for tiny campers, while buffalo plaid runners, glowing lanterns, moss accents, wood slices, and cast iron camp plates created a cozy campsite aesthetic that blended beautifully with the surrounding landscape.
When every element works together to tell one cohesive story, guests don't simply attend a party, they step into an experience. Because sometimes the best memories aren't planned they're discovered.
Welcome to Camp Anawanna
Guests were welcomed to Camp Anawanna with a custom woodland-inspired dessert display that perfectly introduced the day's adventure.
From playful signage to rustic styling, the dessert station became both a focal point and the perfect first stop before campers headed off to explore.
Adventure Around Every Corner
Once the party officially began, something wonderful happened.
The children naturally took over.
Some grabbed binoculars and searched the trees for wildlife. Others packed their little bindles and set off on imaginary expeditions. A few climbed in and out of the vintage VW camper, dreaming up adventures only little minds can imagine.
There wasn't a schedule to follow or a performance to watch. There was simply space to play.
And that's exactly what made it so memorable.
Personalized Stationery: Camp Utensil Packs
To carry the camping theme throughout every detail, I created custom kraft paper utensil sleeves, hand lettering "Camp Anawanna" in my own signature calligraphy before stamping each pouch with a different woodland animal. Every place setting became its own little camp utensil kit, complete with utensils tucked neatly inside and ready for mealtime. It's a simple DIY detail that required very little investment but added an incredible amount of personality, warmth, and handcrafted charm to the overall tablescape.
Gathering Around the Campfire for Sweet Treats
No camping adventure would be complete without gathering around the fire for some sweet treats.
The dessert table featured rustic textures, woodland inspired sweets, campfire favorites, and a custom cake designed to capture the spirit of the outdoors.
As marshmallows toasted to golden perfection and sticky fingers reached for chocolate and graham crackers, laughter filled the air. Those sweet, messy little moments quickly became some of the most memorable memories of the day. Every dessert became part of the overall design, creating a display that was almost too pretty to eat. Almost.
Sometimes the simplest traditions are the ones children remember long after the party ends.
The Wonder Years...

While every lantern, table setting, and woodland detail helped tell the story, my favorite moments from the day weren't centered around the décor at all.
They were the quiet, unscripted moments. A mother's kiss. A child's contagious laughter.
Tiny boots racing through fallen leaves. Friends sharing stories around the table. Chic parties eventually come down. These moments never do.
The Details that Made it Feel Like Camp...For Real.
One of my favorite aspects of this celebration was how every detail encouraged imaginative and interactive play.
The vintage Volkswagen camper instantly transported everyone to camp before they even stepped into the party. Classic red lanterns cast a warm glow throughout the tablescape, while burlap, buffalo plaid runners, wood slices, cast iron camp plates, moss accents, and rustic textures made every picnic table feel like it belonged deep in the woods. Explorer accessories invited little adventurers to create their own stories. Even tiny hiking boots became part of the experience, carrying campers from one adventure to the next.
The goal was never to simply decorate a space. It was to create an immersive camp experience and environment where childhood could unfold naturally. My design helped to transform an ordinary backyard into a woodland adventure where every corner invited guests to explore. Because sometimes it's the smallest details that make a themed celebration feel completely real.
Happy Trails...
As the afternoon came to a close, it became clear that this celebration had become something much bigger than a themed birthday party.
It had become a day filled with exploration, laughter, imagination, and the simple joy of spending time outdoors.
Watching little campers roast marshmallows, search the woods with binoculars, pack their tiny bindles, and create adventures of their own was the greatest reminder that the most meaningful celebrations aren't always defined by extravagant details, they're defined by the memories they create.
At Mariage Blanc Designs, that's always our hope. Not simply to design beautiful events, but to create experiences that families will cherish long after the last lantern has been packed away and the campfire has gone out. Because the greatest adventures don't always require a destination. Sometimes they begin with the great outdoors... a little imagination... and the freedom to simply be a kid.
✨Stephanie's Party Planner Tips
🌧️ Have a Rain Plan Ready
Mother Nature doesn't always RSVP. If rain is in the forecast, simply transform your Happy Camper party into a Happy Camper Cabin celebration. Bring your picnic tables, lanterns, s'mores station, explorer kits, and rustic décor indoors. The camping adventure can continue beautifully inside a home, clubhouse, barn, or event venue without sacrificing the charm of the theme.
🍫 Use Individually Wrapped Graham Crackers
Planning a s'mores station? Purchase individually wrapped graham cracker packs whenever possible. Not only does it create a cleaner presentation, but it also saves time by eliminating the need to break full sheets of graham crackers while guests are waiting.
🔥 Create an Interactive Experience
Children remember experiences far more than decorations. Incorporate activities like scavenger hunts, explorer kits, binoculars, magnifying glasses, and campfire storytelling to encourage imaginative play throughout the celebration.
🏕️ Rethink the Party Favor
Instead of traditional goodie bags, send your little campers home with canvas drawstring backpacks filled with camping inspired goodies. Many of the items can be purchased in bulk on Amazon, making this idea both affordable and memorable. Fill each backpack with mini flashlights, binoculars, a small magnifying glass, a tree branch pencil, mini camp notepads, coloring books, crayons, juice boxes, candy, camping wristband, and other adventure themed treasures. Not only do the backpacks double as part of the party experience, but they also become a practical keepsake long after the celebration ends.
My Final Thoughts

Whether you're planning a backyard birthday or an outdoor celebration surrounded by nature, I hope this Happy Camper party reminds you that some of the best childhood memories begin with a little imagination and a sense of adventure.
In a world that moves so quickly, there's something incredibly special about creating opportunities for children to slow down, explore their surroundings, and simply enjoy being kids.
Sometimes the simplest celebrations leave the biggest impression because they encourage curiosity, creativity, and meaningful moments shared with family and friends. Because sometimes the greatest destination isn't a place at all.
It's simply The Great Outdoors.
